This bundle focuses on the relationship between spelling and sentence structure.

In Spelling for Life, the focus is on transcription, orthographic structure, word formation and the explicit teaching of spelling through families, conventions and morphological understanding.

In Language for Life (positioned here as syntax), the focus is on how words function within sentences, how sentence structures are built, and how syntactic knowledge supports clarity and coherence in both writing and reading.

The courses do not suggest that syntax grows out of spelling or that spelling is simply a subset of sentence work. Instead, they support teachers to understand how:

• accurate spelling supports fluency when constructing and reading sentences, and

• syntactic knowledge gives purpose and structure to the words students are learning to spell.

Best for teachers who want to strengthen spelling while also developing students’ sentence construction and grammatical control, without blurring the distinction between the two.
