Uncovering the simplicity and science of spelling for P-2 with Lyn Stone
Overhauling your whole school spelling approach?
Wishing to raise student spelling and writing capacity in the lower grades?
Ready to get some new, effective, efficient strategies for spelling improvement, even for little kids?
Then give your students the gift of better spelling by joining Lyn Stone for a one day workshop in Brisbane.
We will cover:
- Teaching handwriting – What does the research say about handwriting and spelling? A guide to establishing consistent, clear handwriting from day one.
- Teaching the alphabet – Don’t believe the hype that this can’t/shouldn’t be done. It’s crucial! Learn how not to confuse students with letter names.
- Sight words – Do spelling lists really help? Effective, efficient alternatives to make words stick for all students.
- Syllables – Which syllable types should I teach for spelling? How do I make sure students have syllable awareness without spending hours per week on syllable activities?
- Vowels and consonants – What’s the difference? Why do we care?
- How to integrate knowledge-building sentences into everything we do from day one and what this does for spelling development.
- Morphemes and spelling – How long do we wait before we tell little kids about morphology?
- All your questions re tricky words and spelling patterns – Bring your favourite words and let’s work through them together so they’re your students’ favourites too!
- A guide to our K-6 Spelling and Handwriting scope and sequence document – Plan for your whole school!
