Words which sound like one another are very much maligned in our language. Endless rounds of ‘Why English is Hard’ emails circulate on the web with sentences like ‘He guessed his guest wasn’t coming’.
Rather than perpetuating the myth that the existence of homophones makes spelling difficult, why not use words that sound the same but are spelled differently as a platform for some meaningful, interesting word study? This topic does just that.
