Every two-letter digraph in English can be generated using a combination of only eight letters. This is a fact not widely known.
This topic sets out a framework for discovery of these combinations, a by-product of which is a greater understanding of the digraphs that are illegal. This in turn engenders a deeper-level knowledge of how our writing system operates and helps pupils make spelling choices with increasing accuracy.
