Teaching Fluency

This section offers some tips on enhancing fluency in students. It discusses whether finger pointing ought to be allowed when reading and gives tips on correcting mistakes during fluency practice. It names some excellent resources and also looks into the phenomenon of writing aversion and how to overcome it. We then to on to present a framework to help reluctant writers gain the vital practice they need to become fluent and confident in their written work, called the 21-Day Writing Challenge. We end with a discussion about the effect that cursive handwriting has on fluency and whether it is necessary or not.
