Meet Lyn Stone

Lyn Stone is an educational linguist, author, and founder of Lifelong Literacy, an international consultancy she first established in 2001 under the name Linguist Learning. For more than two decades, she has worked with schools, teachers, and education systems around the world to bring clear, evidence-based reading and writing instruction into classrooms.

Lyn’s work sits at the intersection of linguistics, orthography, and cognitive science. She specialises in helping educators understand how written English works — and how to teach it in practical, effective, scientifically aligned ways. Her approach is grounded in clarity, accuracy, and a deep respect for the teaching profession.

She is the author of Spelling for Life, Language for Life, and Reading for Life, professional texts used internationally in teacher education programs, school improvement initiatives, and literacy intervention settings. Her books have been reviewed in professional journals, included on the recommended reading lists of leading literacy experts, and used by education departments, universities, and organisations across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, and Ireland.

Lyn is a regular invited speaker at major literacy conferences, including Plain Talk (USA) and The Reading League, and she continues to receive invitations to deliver professional development to organisations and districts across North America and internationally.

Since its inception in 2001, Lifelong Literacy (formerly Linguist Learning) has grown into a team delivering structured literacy intervention, Tier 1 coaching, specialist training, and system-wide professional learning. Lyn also hosts Loves, Hates and Passions, a podcast featuring conversations with prominent figures in education, psychology, and linguistics.

She continues to write, teach, present, and support educators internationally in their work to improve literacy outcomes for all students.
